Dr. Ahmed Elbassiouny, Director of the Stroke and Neurointervention Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, announced that the unit has officially received the international SILC accreditation from the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN)—making it the first unit outside the United States to obtain this prestigious recognition in full compliance with American standards of neurointerventional practice.

The accreditation was awarded during a special ceremony held on the sidelines of SVIN’s annual conference in the United States, where the evaluation team presented the certificate to Dr. Elbassiouny in recognition of the unit’s advanced medical performance and the high-quality services provided at Ain Shams University Hospitals.

The international evaluation team, which visited the unit in April, expressed great admiration for its state-of-the-art facilities, precise medical practices, and the exceptional efficiency of the team—describing the unit as a leading model aligned with the highest global standards.

In his statement, Dr. Ahmed Elbassiouny emphasized that this milestone would not have been possible without the continuous support of:

  • Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine

  • Prof. Tarek Youssef, CEO of Ain Shams University Hospitals

In addition to the dedicated efforts of all unit members since its establishment.

He further noted that the unit provides all stroke and neurointerventional services completely free of charge to Egyptian citizens, reflecting the university hospitals’ commitment to serving the community.

Dr. Elbassiouny also revealed that he has received an official invitation to deliver a lecture on the evolution of neurointervention in Egypt at the largest global conference for neurointerventional practice in Florida. Participants expressed their admiration for the remarkable progress Egypt has achieved in this field, particularly the outstanding model established by the Stroke and Neurointervention Unit at Ain Shams
