The Stroke and Cerebral Catheterization Unit at Ain Shams University Hospitals welcomed a delegation of expert neuro-interventionalists from Saudi Arabia and Kenya to attend an advanced workshop on the latest cerebral catheterization techniques.

The visit was held under the patronage of Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams, Dr. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of the University Hospitals, and Dr. Nagia Fahmy, Head of the Department of Neurology.

Dr. Ahmed Bassiouni, Professor of Neurology and Director of the unit, explained that the “Giant Stroke Unit” at the Faculty of Medicine has succeeded in organizing the first-of-its-kind workshop globally, during which 12 patients suffering from life-threatening cerebral aneurysms were treated using flow-diverter stents — the world’s most advanced technique for aneurysm management — all within a mere 48 hours.

Dr. Ahmed El-Bassiouny noted that this achievement would not have been possible without the concerted efforts of the entire team — starting from the Dean of the Faculty, through the hospital administration and the Internal Medicine hospital management, with the participation of a top selection of neuro-interventional and stroke consultants, in addition to the anaesthesia team led by Dr. Dalia Fahmy, and supporting nursing and technical staff who contributed to the success of this distinguished scientific event.
